2A's Week at a Glance
Jan. 5 - 9, 2009
Welcome back! Thank you to everyone for the generous cards, gifts, and prayers! I hope that you all enjoyed a restful holiday vacation. Also, thank you to the great parents who helped with the Christmas party - the children had a wonderful time!
RELIGION: We are on Chapter 8, 'We Celebrate Reconciliation', which is a thorough preparation for the sacrament. We will discuss how to make an examination of conscience, and focus on the four elements of Reconciliation: confession, penance, contrition, and absolution. St. Joseph will be having the sacrament of penance this coming Saturday at 10:30.
MATH: We continue learning about money, comparing coins, sets of coins, and making a dollar. Please encourage your child to count change whenever possible. We will be having a "shopping spree" with toy advertisements and coins. The students will need to give exact change to "buy" the toys. We began this before the break, but now they will need to provide the exact payment. Be sure to ask what they bought!
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: Social Studies will continue to study landforms and water forms. The students will meet with Mrs. Neghiu for Health this trimester.
Reading: Standing Reading homework is to read for 15 minutes each night which will count toward our Book It program goals. Please mark each night off on the calendar that came home.
December calendars are due.
We will read Nine in One...Grrr! Grrr! in our textbooks.
The skills for the week will include working with synonyms, fantasy and reality, words with long e using y and ey, and cause and effect.
Vocabulary: Earth forget lonely memory mountain wonderful
Spelling: many money every happy tiny baby key penny party lady
The Reading and Spelling tests will be on Friday this week.
ILA: We will finish our review of common and proper nouns, and singular and plural possessive nouns. There will be a quiz on these skills on Wednesday. We will soon begin Unit 3, which starts with verbs and explanatory writing. A test for Unit 2 should be early next week.

NOTES :
Thanks for the tissues! We now have three boxes. More donations will be very welcome for the New Year!
I will be contacting those of you who are in need of a conference. This is a crazy time, but I will try to see you before the break or shortly after.
*** Many students have lost, broken, or used up some of their school supplies. A 'needed supply' checklist may be filled out by your child as he/she sees fit. These would come in the Home folder.
Please contact me whenever you have a question or concern about your child or the classes. I check email every morning, afternoon, and evening. Please note that if you send an email during the school day, I will probably not be able to read it until after dismissal. Any time-sensitive matters should be directed through the office, and a message will get to me.
Happy 2009!
Mrs. L. Rosti
